In this video, photographer @SophiaWallace talks about her project, “On Beauty” and how it raises questions around ideas about masculinity, femininity, gender, misogyny, and what it means to be viewed as a “man”.

It’s very interesting to hear her talk about the intentions behind her work as well as the process that went into creating the images.

Check it out.

Oddly enough, I didn’t perceive anything overtly feminine in any of the collection’s photographs (follow the “On Beauty” link for the collection), save the first still shot which strives for that perception deliberately with a traditional Islamic woman’s headdress. Although the others certainly don’t adhere to “conventional” definitions of “masculinity” that didn’t, for me at least, immediately default them to “feminine” — to the contrary, I found myself pondering where along the scale between they fell.
